Shady O' Grady's Rising Star Talent Search Voting Is Now Open!
Bigger than a thirty foot tall piece of cheese and louder than a flock
of seagulls, Shrapnel Games and Gilligames would like to announce that
voting is now open on the "Are you a Rising Star?" contest. The
contest, which ran from the end of July to August 25th, was an open
call for unsigned musical acts to submit their favorite blues, country,
folk, jazz, pop, punk, rap, and ska songs for possible inclusion in the
upcoming musical role-playing game, Shady O' Grady's Rising Star.
Thanks goes out to everyone who entered.
Due to an
overwhelmingly awesome pool of talent the final voting will actually
only encompass the blues and pop genres. Every genre was represented
impressively, with such great showings that we couldn't say no to the
songs! And so for all those who entered in the other genres, welcome to
the game! In the upcoming weeks Shrapnel Games will be featuring a
rotating list of these songs for your listening pleasure, so be sure to
keep checking the site to hear these great acts.
The blues and
pop genres, also with a great showcase of talent, were a tough call, as
we can only fit so much greatness into the game at once. And so we give
to you, the public, the ability to make the call for us. Go to http://shrapnelgames.com/Features.htm,
expose yourself to some excellent music that you won't find anywhere
else, and then make your vote count! Those songs with the most votes,
along with the submissions from the other genres, will then be featured
in Shady O' Grady's Rising Star from Shrapnel Games.
Slated for
a November release, Shady O' Grady's Rising Star is a single-player RPG
for Windows, developed by Gilligames (Space HoRSE, also for Windows and
available through Shrapnel Games). In Shady O' Grady's Rising Star
players take on the role of a struggling band in one of ten musical
genres, climbing their way to the top of the charts one underpaid gig
at a time. From creating songs to buying equipment to checking out the
competition, the virtual musician's life includes everything you'd
expect in real life, minus the smell of cheap beer and stale cigarette
smoke.
The game doesn't have to end when the lights come up,
either. Since Shady O' Grady's Rising Star is all about choices, the
game is infinitely replayable depending on your decisions. Further
replayability is boosted by the extensive modding options available,
such as creating new maps and modifying the equipment list. You may not
be able to create a Norwegian landscape and burn churches, but if you
want to do a black metal band touring your neck of the woods, you can
do it.
